Munster team to face Edinburgh named after week of major uncertainty at the province

Ben Healy, the hero of Parc Y Scarlets last Saturday, is named as the Reds' starting no 10 for their first PRO14 game at Thomond Park since February 29.

After a week of major uncertainty and two cancelled training sessions after positive Covid-19 tests for two senior players, Johann van Graan will be relieved that tomorrow's Edinburgh game is still on and that his side.

The South African's squad were given the green light to go ahead with their Captain's Run at the Limerick ground today.

It's the only session that the province managed to stage this week after it emerged on Tuesday that a senior player who didn't travel to Wales last weekend had tested positive, and then a further round of PCR testing on Wednesday uncovered another positive case.

Fortunately, that second case was among a group of six players who had immediately self-isolated as a close contact of the first case.

Healy, 21, came off the bench to land a vital conversion to level things up with Scarlets last week before kicking the winning penalty from inside his own half.

It was the last action of the game.

He is one of seven changes from that game, and while Conor Murray has recovered from a thigh injury that has kept him sidelined for a month, it is Craig Casey who will partner Healy in the half-backs. Murray is on the bench..

There is a new midfield pairing with Alex McHenry, making his first Guinness PRO14 start, named alongside Rory Scannell as Damian de Allende and Chris Farrell sit this one out.

In the back three, Matt Gallagher makes his Munster debut on the left wing, joining Andrew Conway and full-back Mike Haley, who returned to action off the bench last week for the first time since February.

Jeremy Loughman comes into the front row to pack down with Rhys Marshall and John Ryan while Fineen Wycherley joins Tadhg Beirne in the engine room.

Peter O'Mahony isn't involved this week so Tommy O’Donnell comes into the back row, with Jack O’Donoghue moving to blindside. CJ Stander captains the side from number 8 in O'Mahony's absence.

Former Leinster prop Roman Salanoa and academy out-half Jack Crowley are in line to make their Munster debuts off the bench, while Dan Goggin returns from an ankle injury and is also expected to be involved at some stage.

Munster:   Mike Haley, Andrew Conway, Alex McHenry, Rory Scannell, Matt Gallagher, Ben Healy, Craig Casey; Jeremy Loughman, Rhys Marshall, John Ryan, Fineen Wycherley, Tadhg Beirne; Jack O’Donoghue, Tommy O’Donnell, CJ Stander (C).

Replacements:  Kevin O’Byrne, James Cronin, Roman Salanoa, Gavin Coombes, John Hodnett, Conor Murray, Jack Crowley, Dan Goggin.
