Munster team 'safe & well' in South Africa amid new Covid-19 variant outbreak

The Munster team are 'safe & well' in Pretoria amid the outbreak of a new coronavirus variant in South Africa.

The B.1.1.529 variant has been discovered in a number of South African countries as well as Hong Kong with cases reportedly sky rocketing in South Africa.

And with the EU reportedly seeking to stop air travel to Africa amid concerns of the new variant.

But Munster Rugby provided an update on Friday morning, saying: "We all are safe & well in Pretoria. We are working with URC on the ongoing situation relating to Covid-19 & will provide an update once we know more #MunsterInSA"

It remains to be seen if this weekend's game will go ahead but the UK has already listed six African countries onto its travel red list including South Africa which will come into effect at mid-day.

And it is not just the UK as Italy has also banned a number of countries including South Africa.

The EU is set to propose to its members an emergency brake on travel from Southern Africa to member states as the situation continues to escalate.
