Munster star Billy Holland and wife welcome baby boy after losing young daughter last year

Munster rugby star Billy Holland and his wife Lanlih have welcomed a baby boy after losing his young daughter last May.

In a moving Late Late Show appearance in January, the pair explained how due to severe medical problems they only had very little time to spend with their baby girl Emmeline.

By sharing their story, they hoped to raise some €500,000 for Crumlin's Children Hospital and the CUH Children's Ward.

And now, Billy and Lanlih have become parents again to a baby boy, Matthew, RSVPLive reports.

Proudly sharing the news on social media, Billy wrote: "Matthew Conor Holland, our gift from Emmeline. So proud of my wonderful wife Lanlih."

It wasn't long before the couple were flooded with good wishes from their followers.

"Congratulations to all of you & all good things for Matthew Conor. Emmeline is with you," wrote on Twitter.

A second added: "Congrats, Billy & Lanlih. Fantastic news.  Delighted for you both."

While a third said: "Congratulations such wonderful news."

Back in February, Billy revealed how he and Lanlih's Late Late appearance raised the funds for Crumlin's Children Hospital and the CUH Children's Ward in memory of their late daughter Emmeline.

Taking to Twitter, Billy explained that the donations page is now closed as he thanked everyone for his generosity.

The touching statement on Twitter read as follows: "We want to send out a final thank you to everyone who has so generously donated and/or sent us messages. We really appreciate the incredible support that we have received and we will spend a lot of the coming weeks reading through everything.

"We have started our meetings with the charities about what the money will be used for and we are so excited thinking about the tangible impact this money is going to make to sick children and their families.

"We hope to share details in time, once everything is confirmed, so you can know how the lives of sick children will be improved because of Emmeline and your donations.

"We couldn't be any prouder of Emmeline and her legacy.

"Many people have contacted us and told us about children who have passed away either recently or many years ago. We hope that this week may have given them another opportunity to speak about their beloved child. If you know anyone that has lost a child, please check in on them (no matter how much time has passed) and reassure them that their child has not been forgotten.

"We desperately wish Emmeline was here to feel all the love that has been sent our way. We miss her so much every day."
