Munster return no quick fix for Storm: Sims

Melbourne don't see the possible return of Cameron Munster as a magic elixir for their form woes ahead of their NRL clash against Wests Tigers.

Since a rousing round-one victory over Parramatta when playmaker Munster suffered a serious finger injury, the Storm have been sadly off the boil.

While he has been included in the squad for Friday's clash, Munster still has to be cleared by medical staff after having the pin removed from his finger on Wednesday, and complete their final training run.

Melbourne have already lost halfback and fellow vice-captain Jahrome Hughes to suspension, with rookie Jonah Pezet set to take over his No.7 jersey.

Storm forward Tariq Sims said Munster looked in good shape but the club would not rush his return.

"He's progressing really well and his training has been really good," Sims told AAP.

"But his return is up to the coaching staff and himself to judge.

"I know he's fit, because every time I look over he's getting flogged on the sidelines. When he's ready, he's ready but it's a long season so I don't think we're going to try and rush him."

Falling in recent weeks to Gold Coast and Canterbury - neither of whom played finals last year - Sims said the Storm couldn't rely on Munster to make the difference.

They only completed 63 per cent of their sets in their shock four-point loss to the Titans.

"Our ball control wasn't great so we need to improve on that but we need to be better all around," Sims said.

"It definitely helps having Cameron in your team but it starts with all of us, we've all got to do our jobs individually well for players like that to shine.

"We've got to get our own backyard in check because the past two weeks we're not happy with our performances.

"It's on us to do better, plain and simple, and it's important to turn it around and win in front of our home fans."

Switching from the Dragons in the off-season, Sims made a delayed Storm debut against Gold Coast due to a lingering calf injury but said there was now no issue and he was looking to build on his minutes against the winless Tigers.
