Munster now have the chops to be big game hunters says Rory Scannell

Rory Scannell insists Munster have the chops now to be big game hunters.

The talented centre looks back on the Reds’ below par displays in the Champions Cup semi-finals of the last two years and puts it down to inexperience at the highest level.

Saturday’s opponents Saracens powered away from the province in the last four at the Aviva Stadium in 2017 - then Racing 92 were out of sight early in Bordeaux a year ago.

“We probably let the game go away from us last year in Bordeaux, and in Dublin the year before,” reflected Scannell.

“We let the pressure get to us on the day, we weren’t firing really. When you have 50,000 Munster supporters behind you in the Aviva and you nearly feel like you let them down, we had such good support and we didn’t do them or ourselves justice on the day.”

Scannell, 25, believes Munster must get their kick-chase right if they’ve to have any chance against a side that is lethal on the counter-attack. For many, Sarries are the team to beat as they chase down a third Champions Cup crown in four years.

“We’re going in as underdogs,” said Scannell. “There’s no doubt about that.

“They’re unbeaten in Europe this year, they’ve only lost two or three games in the Premiership and it’s a massive challenge ahead and it’s exciting.”
