Munster football final between Cork and Tipperary to be played at Pairc Ui Chaoimh

The Cork-Tipperary Munster football final has been fixed for Pairc Ui Chaoimh on November 22.

An announcement from the Munster Council outlined how “this is in line with the existing home and away agreement between the counties whereby the last meeting took place in the 2018 Munster semi-final at Semple Stadium, Thurles”.

Tipperary were apparently pushing for the game to be played in Thurles by virtue of the fact that the counties’ previous clash at this stage of Championship, the 2002 Munster final replay which Cork won handsomely, was also staged at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

But they made little headway on that front and Cork will enjoy home advantage after their sensational semi-final win over Kerry last Sunday, with the game throwing in at 1.30pm on Sunday week. The Ulster football final takes place later on the same day.

On the weekend of the 100th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday atrocities at Croke Park, Tipperary will wear a special commemorative white jersey with a green hoop, in line with the colours that the county sported a century ago.

Elsewhere in Munster, Benji Whelan has stepped down as Waterford senior football manager after two years.

Waterford have remained in Division Four during Whelan’s tenure while they were well beaten by Limerick in their recent Munster quarter-final.
