Munster announce new deals for multiple players after Peter O'Mahony signs on for two more years

Gavin Coombes, Mike Haley and Neil Cronin have signed new two-year deals with Munster - while Ben Healy and John Hodnett have signed their first senior contracts with the province.

The news follows confirmation that Reds skipper Peter O'Mahony has also extended his stay with the province to the end of the 2022-23 season.

Munster have also announced that Greencore Academy players Healy - who starts against Connacht at Thomond Park tomorrow night in what his 13th senior appearance - Jake Flannery, James French and Seán French will all join to the senior squad ahead of next season season on one-year deals, while Hodnett has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

The exciting back row Coombes, 23, is seen as a future Ireland player and was called into training by Andy Farrell ahead of the Six Nations.

He made a try-scoring Champions Cup debut against Harlequins in December and is the province’s leading try-scorer this season with eight tries in 14 appearances.

Haley, 26, has made 53 appearances - all at full-back - and scored nine tries for the province since joining in 2018, and made his Ireland debut in the World Cup warm-up against Italy in August 2019.

Scrum-half Cronin is rehabbing a cruciate injury that he sustained in training in October. The 28-year-old has made 24 Munster appearances.

"Off the back of the great news about Peter’s IRFU contract this morning, it’s a further boost for the province that we can add these latest names to the squad roster for next season," said Munster boss Johann van Graan.

"Securing the continued services of quality players such as Mike, Gavin and Neil allows us to focus on our future planning and objectives for this group. They are an exciting dynamic trio who add huge value to the squad.

"In terms of the younger lads it’s always great seeing the next generation of players stepping up and reaching their potential, and it’s credit to the work that’s carried out in clubs and schools that helped them to get to this point."
