Ahead of the presidential election, Guardian journalist Gary Younge will be spending a month in Muncie, Indiana, traditionally viewed as emblematic of middle America. He will be hearing how Muncie is dealing with this polarizing election and from its voters, who supported both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders in the primaries.
Gary is interested in what people might think, not just how they vote – and invites you to contribute to, guide and help shape this series as it considers the wider issues laid bare by this extraordinary election.
This project is part of an experiment in collaborative reporting. We hope that you will help shape this series, guide Gary’s coverage, and contribute experience and knowledge – whether you are in Muncie and the surrounding areas, or living in “Middletowns” around the globe.
How you can help
It’s only by listening to you that we can fully understand the issues that will decide this presidential election. To start the series, we’d like to hear from people living in Muncie, or who have have knowledge of the town and surrounding areas. What do you think Gary should explore, who should he speak to and where should he go?
