Mums use day off to fly to Ibiza for 12-hour trip - and make it home for school run

A group of mums with just one day free together decided to take a 12-hour holiday to Ibiza after bagging return flights for just £34.

Rebecca Rattcliff, 38, and mum chums Laura, Danielle, Danielle, Lauren and Fay decided to jet off to the Iberian isle for a half-day in the sun amid childcare and work commitments. The friends flew from Manchester Airport at 6am on Sunday and flew out of Ibiza at 11pm the same day, giving them time to get some shut-eye ahead of the Monday school run.

The six pals had a 'Sunday Funday' to die for, packed with sunbathing, cocktails and good food. It isn't even the first time travel consultant Rebecca, from Manchester, has gone on a one-day trip as of late, after jetting to Lanzarote in January.

She said: "I have four children and between the six of us we have 15 children. We were keen to look for a good deal and everybody loves the Ibiza sunshine.

"We found Ryanair flights on Skyscanner, and we knew for everyone to be able to come it had to be that Sunday."

The group of six booked the flights in February and flew out for the day trip on March 26. The day trip saved them splashing out on, or having to lug around, bags of luggage – all they needed was a handbag each with the essentials.

They paid £10 each for a return minibus to Manchester Airport, and paid 27 Euros each for a bus trip in Ibiza to get around the Balearic island. Their island-spanning trip took them from Ibiza Town to San Antonio Bay, where they sunbathed with biodegradable towels that roll up into a handbag-sized space and expand when wet.

The ladies then watched the sunset at nearby Cafe Mambo before heading for the airport for their flight back, which arrived early in the morning in Manchester.

Rebecca continued: "Quite a lot of the shops were shut but it was scenic and beautiful. We ended up doing 26k steps just exploring.

"We had to be back at the airport for 8.15pm for our flight at 10pm but there was a 40-minute delay. We also had no idea what time it was because of the clocks changing.

"We were so blessed with the weather - the sky was cloudless. It was such a good day - I spent time in gorgeous company with supportive female friends all on the mum journey together.

"It was a blissful day off to treasure and we all felt we'd been there longer than a day. You feel refreshed after 12 hours in the sunshine."

As an expert in day trips abroad, Rebecca has plans to partner up with travel companies to offer one-day trips to other women.
