'Mums Make Porn' film to test new age verification system ahead of UK porn block

A X-rated film created by a group of British mums is being used to test a new online age verification system, ahead of the UK's forthcoming "porn block".

The film, "I Want Fourplay", has been written and directed by a group of five mothers who were Mum-of-six violently sick after visiting hardcore porn set for Channel 4 documentary accessible to young people online for free.

In the Channel 4 documentary series Mums Make Porn: Woman took daughters to watch PORN film she made - and says they loved it, they set out to create a porn film that they would be Mums disgusted by internet sex make PORN FILM they're happy for kids to watch.

The last episode of the series aired on Channel 4 last night, and the full version of the show's adult film is now available on All4 .

However, in preparation for the UK's forthcoming porn block, digital age gates have been placed on the film, forcing viewers to prove they are over 18 before they can watch it.

The system from software provider AgeChecked requires viewers to verify their age using a driving licence, credit card or mobile phone number.

Once they have verified their age, they are provided with a unique username and password, which allows them to log on and view the X-rated content.

AgeChecked's software never stores personal information on its users, and credentials are anonymised, so personal data cannot be passed on to the adult website in question – or in this case All4.

This is the largest mainstream test of an online age verification system since the announcement of the UK's "porn ban", which is due to come into force this year.

"The results of this first mainstream test of our software were hugely encouraging," said Alastair Graham, chief executive of AgeChecked.

"This suggests a clear preparedness to offer robust, secure age verification procedures to the adult industry's 24-30 million UK users.

"It also highlights that customers are willing to participate in the process when they know that they are being verified by a secure provider, with whom their identity is fully protected."

AgeChecked said that, so far, entering a mobile phone number has been by far the most popular method of age verification.

“The popularity of mobile phone verification was interesting and presumably due the simplicity of using this device," said Graham.

"This is something that we foresee as being a key part of this process moving forward.”

The UK's porn block was due to come into force this month, but an effective date for the new legislation's implementation is yet to be confirmed.

The new measures are a result of the Digital Economy Act 2017, and are designed to prevent children from seeing content that isn't appropriate for them.

Under the terms of the Act, all online commercial pornography services accessible from the UK are required to carry age-verification controls.

Any porn site that fails to comply with the new rules faces a fine of up to £250,000, or a blanket block by UK internet service providers.

Several different age verification software systems have been developed for this purpose, of which AgeChecked is one.

Mindgeek - the company that owns Pornhub, YouPorn, RedTube and Brazzers - has developed its own system called AgeID.

Another company, AVSecure, offers an age verification solution called AgePass which uses blockchain technology to protect the viewer's anonymity.

"There have been a number of negative stories lately about the so-called 'porn ban' in the UK," said Rudd Apsey, a spokesman for the Age Verification Providers Association (AVPA).

"This test demonstrates that the age verification measures required under the Digital Economy Act can be successfully applied to adult websites without issue – verification of adults can be quick and anonymous.

"It is worth remembering that the goal of this legislation is to protect young kids from stumbling across adult content - the UK is leading the world in the introduction of online child protection measures."
