Mums in a stir over family's 'vile' plans to fly Business while kids stay in Economy

Remember when Gordon Ramsey told the world that his kids travel in economy while he and Tania live their best lives in first class?

Many actually applauded the chef for teaching his family about the value of money and "keeping it real" for the kids.

But just because a celebrity gets away with it, that doesn't the rest of us normal folk do.

So when one mum revealed her friend's plans to fly in a separate class to her grandkids, it all kicked off.

"Friend is taking her grandchildren to the USA to holiday with their dad. Dad lives full time on West Coast, it's a long flight," she revealed on Mumsnet .

"Granny and daughter/aunty have bought Business Class returns for themselves but dad has paid for the 12 and 14 year old to sit in Economy.

"Is this even allowed?" she asks.

"I know BA have ruled that no under 14’s can fly unaccompanied now.

"I don't know who they are flying with but l can't help feeling that this is unfair on the other passengers who will have two very lively unaccompanied kids amongst them for 14 hours."

One woman was very speedy with her judgement, calling it a "w****r move" then adding "but people do it. I wouldn't because kids are still humans, rather than luggage to put in the hold out of sight."

Another added: "I think it's vile not to travel together," added another, "but for a 12/14 yo there's no actual prohibition and they'll mostly be on their screens. For younger kids yes, it's hugely unfair on other travellers."

"You travel with your luggage in the hold without it having to inconvenience you," someone else chipped in.

"People who put their kids in economy while they travel business are the same. It's like saying 'see you on the other side, I don't care about your experience'."

That said, not everyone saw the issue.

"At 12 and 14 they're old enough to sit [and] watch the films and not be a pain. At that age the extra space in business class would be wasted on them. I don't see a problem."

"They're in Economy, not the hold," added another.

It was also pointed out that flights are expensive and First Class was "of no real benefit" to kids.

What do you think? Clever move, or cruel move?
