Mums 'completely shocked' after being refused entry from bar for wearing glitter

Three mums have slammed a bar in Newquay because they were refused entry by "smug bouncers" for wearing glitter.

The trio made up of Joanna Moss, Marti Meek and another friend who didn't want to be named, were left "completely shocked" after they were rejected from one of Newquay's most popular bars.

The mums had decided to make the "most out of a bad situation" after Boardmasters music festival was cancelled this weekend, and decided to have a night on the town with their husbands.

Joanna told Cornwall Live : "We are three married couples making the most of baby sitters booked for the cancelled festival and were turned away from Central because we had glitter on our faces.

“Our husbands walked in first and we were blocked by a bouncer to say we were not allowed entry with glitter on our face. My husband had just walked in with glitter on his t shirt but we were left to feel embarrassed in front of a lot of people outside drinking.

“We were left feeling completely shocked. They said they wanted to ensure a family atmosphere but had football on and there were lots of drunk single guys

“We live just outside of Newquay, we got a taxi in as we intended on having a drink but we may now just go home early as they told us many bars are doing the same thing . We are 31-41 and have been left feeling deflated and disappointed.

“He did say we will be ok to come back after 9pm.

“I understand if we were a group of drunk singles on the lash. But we are respectable couples in professional jobs making the most of a bad situation.”

Joanna questioned why the bar didn’t put out a message on social media saying they were practicing a no glitter policy to save others similar embarrassment.

Marti added: “We were left feeling really sad having been refused entry to Central because we had some glitter on our faces

“Being gutted that Boardmasters have been cancelled we thought we would make the most out of a bad situation and bring some glitter and fun to Newquay town instead thinking the atmosphere would be great but instead the smug bouncers told us we couldn’t come in.

“We are seriously shocked. All the other pubs have been welcoming. But Central were awful. We left feeling deflated and sad.”

A member of the Central management team confirmed to Cornwall Live that the girls were refused entry because of a no fancy dress before 9pm policy due to the bar being a family friendly environment. She said that glitter counts as fancy dress and that they'd be welcomed back after 9pm.
