Mums and dads urged to take simple safety step when taking kids to the beach this bank holiday

Mums and dads heading to the beach to enjoy the bank holiday sunshine are being urged to take a family photo when they arrive.

Forecasters are predicting a glorious weekend across Merseyside, with temperatures expected to rise above 20 degrees C.

And with that the Sefton and Wirral coastlines could prove popular with hotspots like Formby, Crosby and West Kirby beaches likely to prove popular.

With that in mind, one Merseyside coastguard unit posted a series of safety tips on social media ahead of the anticipated sunny weather.

Within the advice was the suggestion to take a snap of your party once you arrive.

Explaining the tip, Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team wrote on Facebook: "Take a seaside selfie when you arrive, if your child goes missing, a pic of what they are wearing on the day can be very helpful if a search is needed."

Other safety messages included not to enter the water when a red flag is flying, to stay hydrated and avoid inflatable boats and toys on the open water.

Anyone who gets into difficulty - or sees someone else in trouble - can call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
