Mums and children flee onto pitch in terror as fans clash at fiery Welsh rugby match

Mums and children were forced to flee a Welsh rugby match when tensions boiled over between fans and led to a nasty fracas.

Families were seen running onto the pitch the avoid the ugly scenes unfolding in the crowds.

One witness described seeing a man being headbutted, while the altercation led to some fans ending up on the floor of the stand as tempers flared.

The match had to be halted and the incident has since been described as "unacceptable".

The clash happened as Glamorgan Wanderers took on Brecon in the WRU Division One play-off second leg.

With promotion to the Championship on the line, feelings between fans of the two clubs took a nasty turn.

It caused the referee to call time on the match a minute early, reports Wales Online.

Cardiff Blues full-back Dan Fish, who was helping out with the Wanderers for whom his brother Luke was playing fly-half, had to step in to help calm the situation down.

It's unclear what action, if any, either club or the Welsh Rugby Union will take at this stage.

Following the match, an announcement on the ground's PA system said certain fans would not be welcome back.

There had been a bit of niggle in the match itself - which saw Glamorgan overturn their first-leg deficit to win promotion to the Championship with a 34-12 victory.

Andy Powell's Brecon, fresh from their WRU Plate success a few weeks ago, headed into this promotion decider with a five-point advantage after winning the first-leg 28-13 at Parc de Pugh.

But the Wanderers recorded a decisive victory to dash those hopes and send themselves up at Brecon's expense.

A Brecon statement said: "We were beaten by a better side today and we wish Glamorgan Wanderers all the best next season in the Championship.

"The crowd fracas was out of their control, as it was out of ours, but we all have to do all that we can to emphasise that any disruption of this kind is unacceptable."
