Mumford & Sons have joined Take That among the headliners for this year’s Barclaycard British Summer Time festival in London’s Hyde Park. The hugely successful band will headline the event on 8 July, the night before Take That take to the stage.

In a rather more effusive statement than Take That managed for their announcement, the group said: “Hyde Park for us: sacrificing hopes and dreams at the altar of Neil Young; being transported to another dimension by the National; supporting Arcade Fire (the best band in the world); playing alongside our mates the Vaccines; accidentally seeing the Black Eyed Peas; wishing we were at Kylie. What a place. And this time we get to headline and pick a bill of sick artists to play with us.”

Mumford & Sons are joined on the bill by the Alabama Shakes (whose last album, Sound & Color, topped the US charts) and the London band Wolf Alice, whose debut album – which reached No 2 in the UK – was nominated for the Mercury prize. The Mumfords’ own last album, Wilder Mind – their third – was a No 1 in both the UK and the US.

Tickets go on general sale at 9am on 27 November and will eb priced at £59.50 for general admission, rising to £199.50 for premium tickets with seats on “the terrace”.
