Mumford & Sons spend another week topping the UK charts with Wilder Mind, an album which has become the first record to spend two consecutive weeks at No 1.
The follow-up to Babel – described in Alexis Petridis’ Guardian review as “wearyingly flat and commonplace” – outsold Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour by more than two to one, according to the Official Charts Company. The album was not only the biggest bestseller in terms of physical copies, but was also the most streamed and the most digitally purchased over the last seven days.
This week’s highest new entry was Eric Clapton with his new Best of compilation Forever Man at No 8, while Swedish songwriter Tove Lo snuck into the top 20 at No 17 with debut Queen of the Clouds, beating Leonard Cohen’s Can’t Forget – A Souvenir of the Grand at No 18 and Roisin Murphy’s Hairless Toys at No 19.
The singles chart remains relatively similar to last week’s too, with Felix Jaehn’s remix of Cheerleader by OMI at the top spot for a third week. The summer anthem managed to stave off competition from LunchMoney Lewis with the track Bills, and Wiz Khalifa’s tribute to Fast and Furious’ Paul Walker, which slipped down to No 3.
Swedish production duo Galantis’ Runaway (U & I) and Major Lazer’s Lean On ft MO and DJ Snake make up the rest of this week’s top 5.
