MUMBAI: The Western Railway(WR) has achieved a significant increase in revenue, with earnings of above Rs 3100 crore in the current financial year, according to a statement issued on Sunday. The revenue has been more than 63% as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
"This has been achieved inspite of the Covid pandemic, where manpower was minimal," said WR general manager Alok Kansal.
WR spokesperson Sumit Thakur said : "The goods and parcel special trains have been continuously traversing across the country to keep the supply of essential commodities moving. Special passenger/ Express trains are also being announced from time to time, to help passengers reach their destination. In 2021-22, WR recorded revenue of Rs 3106 crore -- which includes goods revenue of Rs 2527 crore, passenger revenue of Rs 378 crore, revenue through other sources of Rs 201 crore."
"WR ran 207 parcel trains from April 1 to July 3 to transport essential commodities to various parts of the country. During this period, the loading in goods trains recorded 20.9 million tonnes as compared to 15.8 million tonnes in the corresponding period of last year," Thakur added.
