Mumbai rains: IMD issues Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall, winds up to 90 kmph; citizens urged to stay indoors amid flash flood warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a Red Alert for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region for extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 80-90 kmph.

Citing IMD, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) urged residents to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary and avoid venturing into vulnerable locations. Citizens have been asked to stay away from trees, dilapidated buildings, hoardings, electric poles and other potentially hazardous structures. The civic body also advised people not to park vehicles under trees and to avoid visiting the seashore and low-lying areas during the adverse weather.
