MUMBAI: Tulsi lake, which supplies drinking water to Mumbai, became the first this monsoon to start overflowing at 11 am on Friday. Tulsi, the smallest lake, however supplies only 1% water for Mumbai’s daily needs. Last year, it had started overflowing on July 28.
Tulsi is one of the two lakes located in Mumbai’s limits. The other is Vihar. Both lakes are located in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Civic officials said that when Tulsi lake overflows, the water from it goes into Vihar lake. On Friday, water stocks in the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai touched 2.49 lakh mn litres or 17% of required stocks.
