Mumbai to replace Shardul Thakur with Suryansh Shedge

MUMBAI: Mumbai have replaced seam bowling allrounder Shardul Thakur, who has left for Australia as he's amongst the reserves for the T20 World Cup, with allrounder Suryansh Shedge.

Meanwhile, India batsman Shreyas Iyer will join the Mumbai team in Rajkot for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy "in the next 3-4 days, as he's got a stiff back," Mumbai chief selector Salil Ankola told TOI on Thursday.

Iyer is amongst the reserves for the T20 World Cup in Australia, but has been asked to stay back in India and play in SMAT. Placed in Elite Group A, Mumbai have won both their games so far.

Payyade withdraws from joint secretary race

In a significant development in the build-up to the elections of Mumbai Cricket Association on October 20, Gaurav Payyade, who was an Apex Council member in the last committee, withdrew his nomination for the joint secretary's post on Thursday. Payyade was a candidate from former India batsman Sandeep Patil's Mumbai Cricket Group. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is 5pm on Friday.
