MUMBAI: The BEST on Friday announced that it has given the go-ahead for setting up 330 public charging stations in Mumbai. The announcement was made on a day when heavy industries secretary Arun Goel was on an official visit to Mumbai to review the e-bus projects in Mumbai and neighbouring cities.
Six charging stations will be set up in each of the 27 bus depots across the island city and suburbs, said BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra. "We plan to have the charging stations at 55 locations, including some of our bus stations. The objective is to have more charging points closer to your residence or office so that you are encouraged to purchase electric vehicles. The charging stations can be used by general public," he said. The charging stations will come up in six months, Chandra said. "The work on setting up these stations will commence from tomorrow. The first charging point may come up in four months followed by others gradually," he said. The BEST boasts of 386 electric buses and plans to add 2,100 single decker and 900 double decker e-buses.
