Mumbai: Rs 5,000 fine if you use banned plastic, says BMC

MUMBAI: BMC on Wednesday warned citizens of strict action for use of banned plastic, including single-use disposable plastic. BMC said production, transportation, sale, storage, handling and use of prohibited plastic, as prescribed by the state government, is prohibited.

BMC is appealing that no one use banned plastic, otherwise legal action will be taken, officials said.

In case of violation, by producers, stockists, suppliers, sellers, they must pay Rs 5,000 for first offence Rs 10,000 for the second and a fine of up to Rs 25,000 and/ or imprisonment for 3 months for an offence after that," BMC said

"These restricted plastics include plastic bags (with and without handles); disposable items like plates, cups, plates, glasses, spoons, etc, made of plastic and disposed of at once; plastic items used for food packaging in hotels; cups/pouches used for storing liquids; includes plastic and plastic wrap used for storage and packaging of all types of food, grains et," BMC said.
