Mumbai: Rs 2-lakh deal struck to kill NSE techie by wife’s boyfriend

MUMBAI: An engineer with the National Stock Exchange (NSE)who survived a knife attack in Andheri (east) on February 19 has told the police that he never expected his wife “to be part of a plot to kill him although he knew of her extra-marital affair”.

The engineer, Viren Shah (38), who has been discharged from hospital, was attacked with a knife, allegedly by Abhishek Barot (26). He had been hired by Vipul Patel (35) who, police said, had an affair with the engineer’s wife Jinal (35). All three have been arrested.

The engineer told the police that he felt he was being followed and there was a threat to his life but did not think his wife would be involved. An officer from Andheri police station said that the arrest of the wife’s boyfriend and his aide led them to the wife’s arrest.

“The boyfriend had paid Rs 1 lakh in advance, a scooter and the knife to the aide and had pointed to Shah to identify him. The balance Rs 1 lakhwas to be paid after the murder was executed,” said an officer. The boyfriend and the engineer’s wife had planned to marry eventually. Each was unable to get a divorce from the current spouse.”

A plan to kill the engineer in Gujarat had been made earlier but it did not materialise, said the police officer.

Jinal and Shah have a child while Patel also has two children.

“Jinal and Patel knew each other since their college days but had lost contact after she married and settled down in Mumbai. Four years ago, they met in Gujarat and since then they had been planning to marry after divorcing their partners.
