Mumbai: ‘Possible threat to life since Sachin Waze is approver’

MUMBAI: In a reply opposing dismissed cop Sachin Waze’s plea to be brought to court for all dates of his proceedings, jail authorities have said since he is an “approver” there may be threat to his life. Waze had turned approver in the CBI’s corruption case against former state home minister Anil Deshmukh and two others.

Taking note, the special NIA court said at this juncture, his physical presence did not seem to be necessary. “Whenever, it is needed, he will be called before the court. In such circumstances, the present application is devoid of merit,” the special judge said.

In this plea, Waze contended because of disturbance in video-conferencing, he is unaware of all the proceedings before the court and this, he said, makes understanding the proceedings impossible. Waze also contended that he is facing multiple cases, therefore, a weekly meeting of 10 minutes with his advocate was insufficient.

Waze made the plea before the special NIA court that is presiding over the Antilia bomb scare and the connected Mansukh Hiran murder case. Waze has been in jail since his arrest in the case on March 13, 2021.
