Mumbai: No headway yet in Salman Khan threat case

MUMBAI: Investigation into the alleged death threats issued to actor Salman Khan and his father, story writer Salim Khan, has reached a dead end with the police concluding that the disclosure made by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s aide Siddesh Kamble alias Mahakal, who is in Pune police custody, was only to mislead probe.

Mumbai police also said that although Salman was granted a gun license in the wake of the alleged threats, possessing a gun license always acts as a deterrent.

Following the threat letter, the Bandra police had registered an FIR against unknown persons while the crime branch had also started a parallel investigation. Mahakal was arrested by the Pune rural police in connection with the murder of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala. During interrogation, Mahakal revealed Bishnoi had issued the threat letter from jail and it was his aide Vikram Barad who had taken it to Salim Khan.

Later, the crime branch formed three teams and sent them to Wada, Palghar and Rajasthan in search of a few Bishnoi gang members. According to Mahakal, all three lived in Palghar and worked in a factory. However, a visit by crime branch officials and enquiries thereafter revealed that they were already arrested and lodged in jail for robbery and smuggling weapons.

“The crime branch team returned empty handed last month and concluded that Mahakal had misled the police. As of now, there is no development in the case,” said an officer.
