Mumbai: Name it on bmc or MMRDA? blame game is on over potholed road

MUMBAI: Four days after TOI published photos of a rain-washed potholed road in Jogeshwari, two public agencies are passing the buck as the public suffers. The road was laid last month.

The agencies — BMC, the country’s richest civic body, and MMRDA, the region’s development body — blamed one another for maintenance of the road passing along Western Express Highway.

Also, after TOI’s report, paver blocks are being laid on the stretch , but each of these agencies denied the work is being done by them, making it ambiguous as to who is doing it.

Sources in MMRDA said BMC was doing the job of shifting sewage lines passing beneath the Metro 7 corridor at the spot. “A month ago, BMC relaid the stretch with material not conducive to tackle heavy rain and the road got damaged,” said a source.

On the other hand, BMC officials said the state owns the road which was handed over to MMRDA. “MMRDA’s work is in progress currently. So, maintenance will be done by MMRDA,” said a BMC official.
