Mumbai: Man posing as insurance firm executive dupes senior citizen of Rs 39 lakh

MUMBAI: Dadar police are probing a cheating case where the cyber fraudster, posing as an insurance company executive, duped a former MTNL employee of over Rs 39 lakh, by promising her bonus and good returns on maturity of he insurance policy.

It was in 2015, when the complainant, 60, received a call from the accused, who told her that if she took a policy of Rs 40 lakh, she would get Rs 70 lakh on maturity and a bonus of Rs 1.7 lakh. He also told her that she can pay the money in installments.

From 2015 to 2020, the accused gave her various account numbers in which she transferred the money. However, when she asked for policy details and did not get money after the maturity period, she inquired several times but didn’t get a proper reply.

Later, she approached the police and lodged a complaint. No arrest has been made and the cops are working to find out the details about the mobile number of the accused, and the bank accounts where he received the money.
