MUMBAI: The V P Road police arrested a 41-year-old garment dealer for allegedly cheating his bed-ridden friend and withdrawing money from his credit card. The matter came to light when the friend’s family started receiving phone calls for making the credit card payments.
Police said that the wife of a 46-year-old man, dealing in garments, who resides in the jurisdiction of the V P Road police station, lodged a complaint with them. According to the complainant they started receiving phone calls for payment of credit card. “The actual amount used from the credit card was Rs 45,000 and after adding interest it became 60,000. The complainant was unaware about a credit card in her husband’s name. After she received the calls, she went to the bank and then approached the police,” said an officer.
The police sent an email to the bank asking for details of the credit card and where it was swiped. “We got the report that the money was withdrawn from the shop of the accused, Rizwan Gani, in the jurisdiction of Pydhonie police. Our team went to his shop but he was not there. Later, we got his address and brought him from there,” said the officer. The credit card was issued in the complainant’s husband’s name.
Complainant told police that her husband suffered brain hemorrhage and is bed-ridden. “Its difficult for him to speak. We inquired with the accused and he said that the complainant husband used to swipe his credit card at his shop and take cash from him. However, the cheating amount was withdrawn during the Covid19 period and since then the credit card was with Gani,” said police. Further probe is on.
