Mumbai man held for beating wife to death, passing it off as accidental fall

MUMBAI: A 27-year-old man from Dharavi, Rahul Jaiswal, has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death and making it appear like an accident. The post-mortem and doctor’s opinion paved the way for the investigation.

Last week, his wife, Roshni (22), was taken to Sion hospital with severe injuries and in an unconscious state. Rahul, who had accompanied her, told doctors that she had fallen from the mezzanine floor and fell unconscious. She was declared dead after a while. However, the post-mortem report suggested that the deceased had died due to internal injuries and hence doctors examined her wounds and raised suspicion that she may have been beaten up.

Jaiswal was interrogated him and enquiries with the couple’s neighbours revealed that the couple had a bitter relationship, said an official from Dharavi police station. Roshni suspected Jaiswal was having an extra-marital affair, the police said, adding that Jaiswal confessed to beating her to death. He has been charged with murder and is in police custody.
