Mumbai lose opener to Oman

MUMBAI: A depleted Mumbai team, comprising largely of youngsters and led by left-arm spinner Shams Mulani, succumbed to a two-wicket defeat at the hands of Oman in their first T20 game of the tour on Tuesday.

In a low-scoring game at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground 1 in Amerat, Muscat, Oman, after winning toss and fielding first, restricted Mumbai to 131 for nine in 20 overs. The hosts then chased down the target in 18.3 overs, losing eight wickets in the process. Oman are coached by former Sri Lankan captain Duleep Mendis, while for Mumbai, this is new coach Amol Muzumdar's first assignment.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 131-9 in 20 overs (Aakarshit Gomel 33; Mohammad Nadeem 3-23) lost Oman 133-8 in 18.3 overs (Zeeshan Maqsood 50, Naseem Khushi 39 not out) by two wickets

Kanga League postponed 'till further notice'

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday postponed this year's edition of the Dr HD Kanga League, which was scheduled to commence from Sunday, "till further notice." Apparently, the MCA was forced to take this decision as travelling in local trains (one has to be double vaccinated) and covid restrictions are still an issue.
