MUMBAI: Juhu police on Friday arrested a small-time actress who has featured in a few South Indian movies, for allegedly abusing and picking a fight with a woman constable after ramming her car into another and injuring the motorists on Thursday.
Reportedly, it took almost half-a-dozen women cops to overpower the actress, Kavya Thapar (26), who in an inebriated state began to fight with a motorist after she rammed her SUV into another vehicle.
Thapar, along with a male friend, was driving back home after partying in the western suburbs. “Thapar first rammed her SUV into a car near the JW Marriott in Juhu. The motorists called the police control room when Thapar abused him and got into a fight.
The woman constable who is part of the Nirbhaya squad with the Juhu police, in her statement, said Thapar, who was drunk, abused them and pulled their uniform when they tried to control her.
Thapar, a Mulund resident, was driving home and was heading from Juhu towards Andheri flyover when the incident occurred at around 3 am.
“Thapar’s alcohol test showed she has consumed over and above the permissible level,” said the officer. Mumbai police spokesperson, DCP Sanjay Latkar said Juhu police arrested Thapar reportedly for driving under the influence of alcohol and also assaulting a public servant. “Thapar has been booked under sections for rash driving, causing hurt to a public servant, assaulting a public servant, and mischief,” said Latkar.
Thapar was also booked under the MV Act for drunk driving after her medical examination test report confirmed alcohol presence in her blood. Thapar’s lawyer filed a bail application before the Sessions Court on Friday. The matter will be heard on Monday.
