MUMBAI: In a big boost to their prospects, Mumbai on Friday flew in leggie Prashant Solanki and all-rounder Sairaj Patil to Guwahati for the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, after both the players recovered from Covid-19.
"We roped in both of them after they tested negative in the latest round of tests. As per the BCCI protocols, they're eligible to play Mumbai's next game against Bengal on Saturday," a source in the Mumbai Cricket Association told TOI.
However, middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan and left-arm spinner Shams Mulani tested positive in the latest round of results too, which means that they would now miss the league stage of the T20 tournament. Mumbai lost their opening game to Karnataka by nine runs on Thursday.
Earlier, Mumbai had included 'keeper-bat Prasad Pawar, batter Aakarshit Gomel, who can bowl part-time off-spin, leg-spinning allrounder Khizar Dafedar and left-arm spinner Dhrumil Matkar as replacements after four of their players tested positive for Covid-19 when the team was about to depart for the tourney. Mumbai led by India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane with Prithvi Shaw his deputy. Mumbai were knocked out in the group stage last season.
