MUMBAI: The Mumbai Fire Brigade will initiate an inquiry into the exact cause of Friday’s blaze at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for children in Parel. No persons were injured in the incident but the two floors which are known to have got smoke logged owing to the incident had nearly 300 patients. Many patients had to be shifted to other floors.
The fire, which began around 7pm, was extinguished at 8.40pm. Officials said the fire may have started from the UPS room on the first floor, but the exact cause is yet to be ascertained. The investigation is expected to take a week and will be based on eyewitnesses and circumstantial evidence. A senior fire brigade official called it a routine procedure. “The fire is said to have started from the UPS back-up room on the first floor. Even the electrical inspector from PWD ascertained that. Our investigation will include eyewitness statements and circumstantial evidence,” said the official.
In March 2021, nine patients had died after a fire swept through a Covid care facility in Bhandup.
