MUMBAI: An FIR has been lodged against an animal ambulance driver, Pradeep Kadam, and his aid for illegally performing a surgery on a cat brought for neutering, thereby endangering the life of the feline.
Further police inquiry is on at the Samta Nagar police station in Kandivali (east).
Animal activist Salim Charania of Empowering Hands Foundation NGO told TOI: `"We had earlier received a specific tip-off along with a video showing how the ambulance driver Pradeep Kadam is applying anesthesia on a cat brought for neutering operation, although the accused driver is not qualified to do so. I therefore contacted the police and other animal welfare authorities about this serious matter. Later, an incriminating audio clip conversation between the accused and a vet on this subject was also made available to the police in order to lodge the FIR earlier this week.''
Charania added: "It is disturbing to see unqualified people such as this ambulance driver trying to do a vet's job only to earn quick money. This can cause medical complications or even death for the victim animal.''
Police informed that the FIR against Kadam and his aid identified as Kiran was registered under the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
