Mumbai: Elderly pedestrian killed in hit-and-run at Goregaon East

MUMBAI: An elderly pedestrian lost his life in a hit-and-run involving a motorcyclist on the Western Express Highway (WEH) at Goregaon East on Wednesday morning. Police said the accused left his two-wheeler and slipped away from the spot.

An FIR has been registered by the Aarey Colony Police and a search is on for the accused motorcyclist.

Lubhaji Jambhulkar, the 69-year-old victim, lived in Lonavla. His daughter, Sangeeta, stayed in Malad. Around 9 am on Wednesday, Aarey Colony police were informed of a road crash under the skywalk on the WEH. Two policemen reached the spot and found Jambhulkar lying on the road with head injuries and bleeding. They also found a motorcycle and its rider fallen on the road close to Jambhulkar. The policemen noted down the motorcycle's registration number.

But taking advantage of the crowd that had gathered, the motorcyclist got up and slipped away without rushing any medical help to the victim nor giving any information to the police. Police later said that the motorcyclist had rammed into Jambhulkar, resulting in both of them falling.

The cops rushed Jambhulkar to the Trauma Care Hospital at Jogeshwari where he died. Sangeeta was informed of the crash by the police. Jambhulkar's body has sent for an autopsy.
