MUMBAI: City police commissioner Hemant Nagrale has asked all traffic cops to strictly wear police uniform while performing traffic duties, particularly while collecting fines for Covid norm violations on the road.
Nagrale in his order issued on Thursday stated that as traffic police, while enforcing the Covid-19 and traffic rules, punitive action is taken against violators as per provisions of laws. Police officers must be in uniform while taking such action, but it has been observed that in many places, officers act in plain clothes. Taking advantage of this, people with criminal tendencies become puppet police and extort money from citizens, posing as cops.
