Mumbai Congress Minority Cell leader celebrates his birthday with free distribution of books

MUMBAI: Mumbai Congress Minority Cell vice chairman Haji Mudassar Patel celebrated his birthday on July 9 with free distribution of books among poor college students.

"Due to the lockdowns during pandemic in the last two years, the people suffered a lot. Many people are too poor to afford to buy books and notebooks for their wards. I tried to help some of them with free textbooks," said Patel.

Patel who was among those who led from front the during free distribution of ration among the needy during the pandemic said the new session of schools and colleges has started and many students genuinely need money to buy books. "During the three phases of pandemic, I tried to reach out to as many people as could. But post-pandemic, many people need support. Instead of giving students money, I decided to gift them textbooks," he said.

Political leaders normally celebrate their birthdays by getting huge hoardings and billboards put up by their cronies. Many even throw lavish parties. But Patel decided to mark the day by doing some charity and that too in the field of education.

"There is no joy in wasting money on useless things. Actual joy comes when you have mitigated somebody's pain and provided monetary relief. I chose to reach out to some college students with books which they require to read," he said.

Career is what students need to focus on, said Patel adding, he would help students as much as he can. His trust has also helped many students with scholarships.
