Mumbai: CNG price hiked by Rs 2.50 per kg, cooking gas by Rs 1.50 per unit

MUMBAI: The price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) will be hiked by Rs 2.50 per Kg, including taxes, from Sunday morning while the rate of piped cooking gas will go up by Rs 1.50 per unit.

In the past one year -- from February 2021 to January 2022 -- the CNG rate in the Mumbai metropolitan region has been hiked by over Rs 18.

Public transport such as autos, taxis and buses running on CNG will be badly hit. While a section of unions has demanded a taxi fare hike of Rs 5 and auto fare hike of Rs 2 in view of increasing fuel rates, one of the unions has demanded that the price be rolled back so that there is no fare hike burden on consumers.

Mumbai Autorickshawmen's Union leader Shashank Rao said that the government should avoid a fare hike and roll back rates. "The citizens (commuters) will not tolerate another fare hike and it will not be proper to demand for one. So we are writing to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and transport minister Anil Parab to intervene in the matter," he said.

The revised prices inclusive of all taxes of CNG in Mumbai metropolitan region from Sunday morning will be Rs 66 per Kg while the piped gas rates will escalate to Rs 39.50 per unit.
