MUMBAI: On the New Year's Eve, the city anti-narcotics cell (ANC) conducted an operation at Bandra and seized cocaine, mephedrone and MDMA which was brought to be sold to customers at night.
While questioning a South African national at Bandra, the police learnt about his two associates and laid a trap near Vashi check naka.
The duo were also arrested and drugs were seized from them. The total seizure in ANC’s first case of the New Year is worth Rs 3.18 crore.
The spot near Vashi check naka, where cops arrested the two accused, is the same place where a police team was attacked last year by drug peddlers.
An ANC team led by police inspector Sanjay Chavan and officers Wahid Pathan, Suresh Bhoye, Shrikant Karkar etc were patrolling in Bandra (east) when they found an African loitering in a suspicious manner.
The police team questioned him and checked a bag he was carrying.
Police found cocaine and MD from his bag and the person, Ibey Mike (39), was placed under arrest.
During interrogation, he led police to two others whom he said had supplied drugs to him for selling in the city. The police laid a trap near Vashi check naka and detained two Nigerian nationals while they were coming towards Mumbai.
Police recovered cocaine, other drugs from them too and arrested the duo, Odif B. (40) and Mandey Igwe (38).
In total, police recovered 225gm cocaine, 1.5kg MD and 235gm MDMA collectively valued at Rs 3.18 crore from the three accused.
There is a previous case against Mike in Bengaluru.
The cops are now examining the passports of the arrested accused.
Two of them had entered India pretending to be garment dealers.
“We will be collecting details about their visa to find out whether it has expired,” said an officer.
