Mumbai: Adani Electricity warns citizens against flying kites close to transmission lines on Makar Sankranti

MUMBAI: Adani Electricity has warned kite flyers on Makar Sankranti day to refrain from flying kites near overhead power transmission lines in Mumbai.

"We wish every Mumbaikar good health and happiness on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. But we also want to issue a cautionary advice in the spirit of a safe celebration," said a spokesperson from Adani.

The kite string, popularly known as ‘manja’, is a good conductor of electricity and can transmit very high voltage if it touches overhead live wire or even if it enters the arching zone, the official said.

"If citizens notice any untoward incident as a result of unsafe kite flying near transmission lines, the same may be reported to our dedicated helpline 19122 so that we can take necessary action. Alternatively, you can reach us on social media handle @Adani_Elec_Mum, or on the website or app," he added.
