Mum won’t let her kids watch The Chase due to chaser’s nickname

A mum and lawyer says she won’t let her children watch ITV’s The Chase as she finds the nickname given to the only Black chaser on the show offensive.

Shaun Wallace is one of five chasers on the show and is nicknamed the ‘Dark Destroyer’.

Appearing on Lorraine today, Paula Rhone-Adrien, who is a mum and a family law barrister, said she takes issue with a ‘Mastermind champion being described purely down to the colour of his skin’.

Ms Rhone-Adrien spoke to Lorraine in the wake of the Oprah Winfrey interview conducted with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle which included a revelation regarding conversations over baby Archie's skin colour.

The lawyer, who describes herself on Twitter as 'a Family Law Barrister with all the answers', said: “We have a fantastic game show, a quiz show and the only person who is black on this quiz show, their name is ‘The Dark Destroyer’.

“Now I don’t allow my children to watch the first 10 minutes of this amazing fantastic quiz show because I don’t want to hear and my children hear this amazing Mastermind champion being described purely down to the colour of his skin."

The Chase star Shaun Wallace has been a quiz show regular for more than a decade and has been entertaining fans on the ITV series since 2009.
