Mum with no DIY experience turns three-bed semi into dream home

A mum has given her three-bedroom home an incredible makeover in just two years - despite having no previous DIY experience.

Lyndsey Gynane and her partner saw the potential in the semi-detached property when they had their offer of £170,000 accepted in April 2018.

But after months of painstaking work, the Liverpool couple's modern renovation has wowed hundreds of thousands of people on social media.

They’ve also been able to add £110,000 on the value of the property, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Lyndsey and her partner had big ideas for the property as soon as they got their hands on the keys (@home_at_242 Instagram)

“When we came to view it, we knew the potential”, said 42-year-old mum-of-two Lyndsey.

"We wanted to make it all open and renovate each bedroom and make it into a family home.

"We’d not renovated before, it was our first time doing it but with the vision we had we knew we could make it into more than a three-bed semi.

"People look at it on Instagram and think it's half a million pound house, but it’s not, it’s just a three bed semi in Liverpool."

Lyndsey started documenting the journey on Instagram, and before she knew it she had more than 130,000 people following how they renovated their home.

She said: "It's just gone crazy, it’s a little bit mental. People are following to see how we've done it, what we’ve done and also for inspiration.

"I have documented it all to help other people as well with their renovations.

"Many tell me 'I didn’t realise how you can transform an old house', so I just give little bits of advice and stuff.

"While we have hired people to do the major renovations, I've done most of it myself, all the decor is done by me.”

Out of all of the rooms in the house, the "mini spa" style bathroom is her favourite part, followed by her cozy living room.

She added: “Obviously the extension and open plan and bifolds - that’s the main feature, but the bathroom is a big thing for me , because the bathroom and how we transformed that... it's like a little mini spa now.

“I love my baths, and it's like my little sanctuary with the feel you get from it.”

Although the entire property has been given a modern makeover, the exterior of the house is one of the biggest changes.

The once pebble-dash exterior is now bright white with window frames to match and the front door, which has been decorated with a festive wreath, matches the wood interior.

As you step inside the property you're greeted with a glass banister, plush carpet and white tiles.

In the living room, the fireplace and patterned wallpaper has been swapped out for a sleek modern electric fire.

Upstairs, the wall separating the bathroom and toilet has been knocked through to create Lyndsey's "sanctuary".

And the large, open-plan kitchen is the perfect place to entertain guests with bifold doors running the length of space, which open out into the garden.
