Mum with baby followed by 'taxi driver' who 'tried to grab her'

A mum walking with her baby was followed by a man claiming to be a taxi driver who she claims "tried to grab her".

The woman was making her way along Eleanor Road in Prenton, Wirral, with her pram when a silver car pulled up behind her.

A man driving the car is said to have told her he was a taxi driver and could take her "anywhere she wanted" and then police said proceeded to reach out towards her.

Merseyside Police's inspector Roger Pegrum has described it as a "distressing incident" as police appeal for witnesses or anyone who has video footage from around 9.15pm on Tuesday, August 31.

The man was described as in his 40s, with black hair, clean shaven and wearing a blue t-shirt.

Community policing chief inspector Pegrum said: "This was a distressing incident for the young woman, and we would be keen to hear from anyone who was on Eleanor Road at the time, or lives in the area, and may have captured the details of the vehicle involved on their own CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices. Please check if you are a resident on Eleanor Road or nearby.

"The victim did exactly the right thing by walking away calling police immediately.

"We’ll of course act on any further information received to find the person responsible."
