Washing your hair every single day is unarguably tedious, so many people will reach for dry shampoo in order to keep their locks fresher for longer. It's so easy - you just spritz it directly on the roots, and where the hair feels oiliest, spraying it through different sections at a time to ensure the whole head has been covered.
Beauty guru Alex, who posts on TikTok as @mac.larena, has turned her back on traditional dry shampoo, however, after the aerosol products began to have an impact on her scalp. She still needed something to make her hair-washing routine last longer, so she decided to take matters into her own hands.
She captioned the video: "My scalp was flaking and peeling from overusing aerosol dry shampoo for an extended period of time and it took months to recover.
"Now I use this to extend my wash day by one or two days and my scalp is happy! Bonus it uses ingredients I already have."
At the start of the video, she admits that she'll "never use dry shampoo again", sharing that she was using lots of dry shampoo after the birth of her first child, admitting her scalp was "completely ruined" and "peeling."
But she has an alternative made out of kitchen cupboard ingredients - corn starch to absorb the oil, and cocoa powder to make it brown and blend in with her hair colour.
She also said you could add a couple of drops of "skin-safe essential oils", just to give it a gentle scent.
Alex then proceeds to put the mixture through her hair with a fluffy make-up brush, whilst discussing that she washes her hair every two to three days, but it "gets greasy really fast", so she needs something to freshen it up.
She said: "You let it absorb for a minute, scrub it in, it costs me less than a dollar to make, it's going to last me several months, it's not going to ruin my scalp, I've been using it for years", then she shows the results, with her hair looking freshly washed and shiny.
Cornflour can be bought for as little as 69p from some retailers - and compared to aerosol dry shampoo, is a lot cheaper.
