Mum who spent £300k to 'look like Barbie' spared jail after attacking NHS workers

A mum who splashed £300,000 to look like a Barbie doll has been spared jail after attacking NHS frontline workers with a computer.

Kerry Miles, 37, hurled a laptop and desktop monitor at a worker before punching another in the chest at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex.

The mum-of-one has previously been in the news for spending 300,000 on plastic surgery to transform herself into a "barbie doll".

Today, Miles was given a suspended 16-week jail sentence at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court after she was found guilty of assaulting emergency workers.

The court heard how Miles erupted into a rage while visiting her grandmother who was a patient at the hospital in August last year.

Miles hurled a laptop and folders at a nurse, injuring her shoulder after she was told to arrange another visiting time due to Covid restrictions.

She then punched another nurse in the chest before carelessly driving her car towards a security guard who tried to photograph her number plate before she left the hospital.

Jacqueline Dankyi, prosecuting, told the court that one of the victims thought about quitting her job over the attack.

Miles was found guilty last month of three counts of assaulting an emergency worker, as well as criminal damage and careless driving.

Along with her suspended sentence, justices also handed Miles a one-year restraining order banning her from returning to the ward at Broomfield Hospital and contacting her victims.

Miles, of Witham, Essex was also ordered to pay £1,370, which included £620 court costs, £250 in criminal damage compensation for Broomfield Hospital, and £500 in victim surcharge.

Bench chair Margaret Macallan said: "This was an assault where weapons were used around vulnerable people.

"It was in the middle of a global pandemic when visiting hours were restricted nationally."

Mitigating, Luke Jaques said that Miles had recently been diagnosed with autism and that she suspected that she had ADHD.

He added: "She accepts that she didn't manage her emotions in the correct way."
