Mum weeps as clip of teen son's fatal moped crash with police car played in court

A heartbroken mum wept as chilling footage of the moment her 16-year-old son was flung to his death from a moped was played in court today.

Tyereece Johnson and two other teenagers was thrown from the moped after it collided with a marked police car .

The moped was being tracked by the National Police Air Service helicopter, as it was believed to have been involved in an earlier attempted robbery.

The footage, taken from the helicopter, shows the moped and its three hooded riders weaving a convoluted route from Clapham Common to Wimbledon in south London.

But it hits the rear passenger door of a marked police car at a junction in Wimbledon.

When the distressing clip was played in court today at Tyereece's inquest , his tearful mum Samantha Cohen temporarily left the room.

The talented footballer died in hospital one day after the crash in July 2017, as a result of head and chest injuries.

During the pursuit, a female officer is heard over the radio asking: "Can you try not to follow the vehicle too closely please?"

Clapham Common stabbing victim knifed to death through car window in gang ambush

A report by the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), will be released at the inquest's close.

West London Coroner's Court was today told Tyereece, a huge Chelsea supporter, had "fallen into the wrong crowd".

"His family brought him so much joy, and I loved that this was the case," Ms Cohen said.

Tyereece, who was scouted by the Royal Ballet and loved to read, was also a "natural" babysitter for younger members of his extended family and "very protective" of his mother, the court heard.

His mum, who had moved from north London to Croydon with her family in the months before his death, added: "He was wise beyond his years. I was proud that my son made time for other people, listened to their problems and shared advice."

"It's difficult for Tyereece's family to equate the child we knew at home with who he could be in the world outside."

The inquest is scheduled to last for eight days.
