Mum wears Mickey Mouse pyjamas on school run days after parents told to smarten up

A woman has been caught wearing a pair of Mickey Mouse pyjamas on the school run - days after teachers begged parents to smarten up.

A polite request from Ayrseome Primary School shared on their Facebook page on Friday asked parents to dress up when dropping the kids off in the morning.

But in the days since mums and dads have been caught at the school's gates wearing fuzzy dressing gowns and the previous night's jim jams.

The Middlesbrough school today insisted the "vast majority" of parents support their request.

Ayresome's Executive Headteacher, Charlotte Haylock, also confessed parents will not face consequences if they continue to flout the school's pleas, Teesside Live reports.

She added: "I hope that all parents follow the advice that I've given."

Ms Haylock's polite request comes after the school posted a message on their Facebook on Friday calling out the "inappropriate" garments at the gates.

It said that "dressing gowns on the school yard are not appropriate".

Parents who had children attending the school agreed with the request and they said they are "disgusted" to see others in their PJs.

But images from Monday morning, showed a man who turned up in slippers, cosy grey robe and dark pyjamas and another woman wearing a hooded fluffy gown, colourful pjs and trainers.

The school said: "Please can we ask that all parents/carers dress appropriately when dropping off and collecting children from school.

Parents at the school gates' seemed to agree with the school's stance.

One dad, who asked not to be named, said the pyjama-wear is sported by some parents on the school run.

He said: "I'm absolutely sick of it. It's not hard to get dressed in the morning.

"Imagine how much those kids are going to be ridiculed when they get into school.

"They don't even put on a fresh pair to come and collect them.

"A lot of the parents are disgusted by it."

Parent Aimee Baker, of Middlesborough agreed and said it has been going on for more than a decade.

She said: "My oldest who came here is 17 now and they were doing it then.

"They're local parents and it takes only two minutes to chuck some clothes on so there's no reason.

"They're taking the kids to school in their pyjamas and coming back in the same ones.

"It's embarrassing for the children. There's no excuse you should get washed and dressed every morning."

Other parents at the gates were in agreement and had concerns about the children being mistreated because of it.

One mum said: "It takes two minutes to take your dressing gown off and put a coat on. It's not just a dressing gown though it's full pyjamas, then a dressing gown and slippers. It's just normal around here now."

Another parent, who asked to remain anonymous said: "The mams shouldn't be coming to school in their pyjamas. They're night clothes for a reason so why would you come out in them during the day time.

"The children will think it's acceptable and start repeating it."

The dad-of-two said he does not believe the school request will change the way parents dress and claimed the issue is getting worse.

He added: "They never listen to what the school says so I doubt it's going to change unfortunately."
