Mum wants to name daughter Lilia - even though best pal's kid is called Lillian

Coming up with the right baby name for your child can be pretty tough.

There are lots of factors to consider and finding something that both you and your partner agree on is bound to take work.

One expectant mum finally thought she'd found the right choice for her unborn child, but there was just one problem with it.

Writing on Mumsnet's Am I Being Unreasonable forum, the woman, who is 39 weeks pregnant, revealed that the name she wants to use if she has a girl is pretty much the same as the name of her best friend's daughter.

The post, which has since been deleted, explained that her pal has recently had a baby called Lillian, and she hopes to name her daughter Lilia.

She said: "Do you think it would be unreasonable for me to use this name?

"She picked first and it's not exactly a name I had my heart set on from the start so I worry it might ruffle some feathers."

The mum-to-be added: "I don't see her everyday as we don't live too near each other but we are quite close. Can I get away with it as it's slightly different or should I go back to the drawing board?

"Fingers crossed I have a boy and I won't have to worry!"

Many Mumsnet users were quick to tell the unnamed woman to pick a different name, as they thought it would be unfair to her friend.

Some also pointed out that there used to be a brand of sanitary products called Lilia.

One person wrote: "Personally I value friendship over a child's name - there's lots of choice and Lilly type names have been overused and will date."

Another commented: "It's very similar. As a side note, it might not bother you buyt Lilia used to be the name of a brand of sanitary towels. I'm old enough for that to be the first thing I thought of when I read the name."

However not everyone thought she should give up on her choice, with others arguing that her pal didn't own the name Lilian.

"Use it, she doesn't own it, " replied another. "Multiple people have the same name in the world."
