Mum walks free after prosecutors accept she 'found' almost £10,000 worth of cocaine in home

A mum who was caught with nearly £10,000 worth of cocaine in her house has been spared jail after prosecutors accepted her claims that she "found it".

Police discovered a large quantity of crack and cocaine at Jacqueline Robson's, 57, home during a raid.

Robson, from Walker, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to supply on the basis that she was going to return it to whoever owned it, or, failing that, destroy it.

Chronicle Live reports that a court heard how she admitted cannabis plants found at her property were hers but prosecutors decided not to charge her with that, which a judge stated was "surprising".

Robson has been handed a suspended prison sentence at Newcastle Crown Court.

Kevin Wardlaw, prosecuting, said a total of 68.3g of cocaine was found during a search at her home on Belmont Walk on May 1 2019.

In the kitchen there were 46 0.2g deals of crack and ten 0.2g deals of cocaine, worth a total of £1,240.

In a pillow case in a bedroom, there was a further £7,900 of drugs, including 39 crack deals and 68 cocaine deals, plus further packets of drugs.

There were also scales, £500 cash and weapons, including a bayonet and a ball in a sock - which were not said to be hers.

The court heard when police turned up they were asking for Robson's son, who has previous for possessing drugs with intent to supply.

Judge Robert Adams sentenced her to 20 months suspended for 18 months with a six month curfew between 10pm and 6am.

The judge told her: "You have been involved through exploitation.

"There was street dealing but not by you."

Helen Towers, defending, said the money found was from savings and a loan.

The court heard Robson is a daily cannabis user and has medical conditions including asthma, COPD, anxiety, depression and uses a wheelchair.
