Mum vents her anger on Good Morning Britain after daughter misses out on place at Leeds University

The mother of a high performing student has appeared on Good Morning Britain to vent her frustrations after her daughter's A level results were downgraded.

Megan Brookes was forecast to receive three As and secure a place at the University of Leeds yesterday. However, she missed her place when she was one of the nearly 40 per cent of students to be downgraded, getting an A and two Bs instead.

Her mother Sharon appeared alongside her daughter on GMB this morning to explain how the situation has been devastating for both of them.

Sharon told GMB: "I'm really angry. Angry and frustrated.

"An A and two Bs for any student is fantastic, but Megan has always known that she needs three As to get into the University of Leeds.

"She's worked for the last two years towards those grades, and that has been reflected in the teacher predictions that they submitted, which was three As.

"So, to then open the envelope yesterday to an A and two Bs, it's really disappointing. And the frustrating thing we've got now is three of us spent yesterday on the phone trying to speak to somebody at Leeds and can't get through to anybody.

"We've sent an email and as of yet, we haven't heard anything back. We just want to speak to somebody to find out what Megan's options are, but at this moment in time we haven't been able to speak to anybody".

Yesterday, Megan appeared on the show outside Wyke College in Hull, when she received her disappointing grades.

Megan told Good Morning Britain: "I'm a bit disappointed. I think I would have got my three As if I did my exams.

"I think I deserve three As. It's annoying. I'm just hoping Leeds will let me in with these grades."

Principal Paul Britain added: "We get amazing results at Wyke and loads of our students have got fantastic achievements this year.

"But it's just completely unfair when, with students like Megan, an algorithm and some sort of standardisation process has meant she hasn't got the grades she should have got."
